Overview
Wokai (www.wokai.org) is China’s first person-to-person microfinance platform, connecting contributors around the world with borrowers living under the poverty line in rural China. Since our launch in November ‘08, we have raised greater than 2.5 million RMB, funded more than 1500 loans to support borrowers in rural Inner Mongolia and Sichuan and attracted over 9,000 users worldwide. After proving our model internationally and receiving continuously high levels of interest here in China, we are now making the major step of launching in the China contributor community.
Wokai has been featured in CCTV新闻, 凤凰电视台, 三联周刊, 中国青年报,北京青年报, 中国新闻周刊,新浪, CNN, Bloomberg, MSNBC, CNBC, Time, and Newsweek. In 2010, Wokai Co-Founder & CEO, Casey Wilson, was recognized by China Newsweek (中国新闻周刊) as The Most Influential Foreigner in China and by China Entrepreneurs as The Most Innovative Entrepreneur in China for her pioneering work with Wokai.
In 2011, Wokai launched an important partnership with the China Population Welfare Foundation to enable our organization to fundraise domestically in China. Wokai now has the ability to do what it originally intended to do: allow Chinese people everywhere to give to others in China. With six full-time staff in our Beijing headquarters, 500 volunteers in Wokai Chapters around the world (20 different countries), and a fully funded organization, we believe with the right CEO, Wokai can reach unimaginable heights.
